The Luberon is a French low
mountain running east to west between the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and
the Vaucluse. The mountainous is is composed of three mountain ranges:
(from west to east) the Little Luberon, the Big Luberon and the
Oriental Luberon, lying in the middle of Provence in the far south of
France. The valley between them contains a number of towns and villages
as well as agricultural land. Its highest point is "Mourre Nègre" with
a maximum altitude of 1,125 m.
Its climate is Mediterranean. The Luberon region have the highest rate of sunshine in France With approximately 2600 hours of sunshine per year.
The harmony of colors ochres of th "Colorado Provencal" adds to the enchantment of the place.
Among the hilltop villages, 7 are classified as "Most beautiful villages of France" including Ansouis, Gordes, Roussillon and Menerbes.
Luberon hills dominate the quiet course of the Durance.
